With the scarcity of the Gordon Setter breed, we needed to travel to the other end of the country to Hernwood Kennels to collect her. That required several stressful hours up the motorway, thankfully the drive was fine, but we discovered a dislike of roundabouts in the last few miles.
Getting home meant meeting the children, and I think it’s a toss-up whether the 2, or 4, legged family members were most nervous. I spent that long prepping for the new addition that I’d not considered the existing little things (despite having grown up with dogs in the household since birth).
First night was thankfully better than we would have feared, resulting in some vocal complaints about the new sleeping arrangements (there’s a lot of volume in those little lungs), and a couple of successful toilet trips to the garden in the early hours.
I’m grateful that my third night time trip to the garden turned out to be a very vivid nightmare, watching the new arrival get the Zoomies only to clear the 7tf garden fence leaving me chasing an all black puppy in the pitch dark - thankfully, just a nightmare (unless I’ve jinxed it).
All was forgiven after breakfast, with an hour’s sleep curled up on lap (on the kitchen floor, there’s a chance only one of us was comfortable).
Now to get on with training, cuddles, and (hopefully) fewer nightmares. Watch this space…
